On Oahu each unit rented for less than 30 days within the STR-eligible areas is registered with the Department of Planning and Permitting, and the registration lasts one year. Rentals are confined to resort-zoned areas and a few apartment-zoned areas. Hosted bed and breakfast homes and unhosted transient vacation units are treated as separate types.
