Short-Term Rental Rules by City: Permits, Caps and Taxes

Last checked: 2026-10-07

This site compares the short-term rental rules of 20 US cities and counties: whether a permit is required, what it costs, whether a home the operator does not live in can be rented, and which lodging taxes apply. Each place has its own page with the full set of facts, a short summary and the official pages the facts were read from.

Every value was recorded from the jurisdiction's own web pages, or from a state revenue agency or statute page for state tax rates, on the date shown. A value that could not be found on those pages is marked "unknown" instead of being filled in from another source.

How to read the table

How the facts were collected

On 2026-10-07 an AI agent fetched each jurisdiction's official web pages and recorded only what those pages state. Many official details sit in fee schedules and ordinances published as documents that were not read; the affected values are marked as unknown and the notes on each city page say so. The checks were automated: the page fetches, and a script that tests the structure of the data. Fees and penalty amounts change with each budget year.
